The Hidden Cost of Awakening: Why Dissonance Is the Price of Awareness

The Hidden Cost of Awakening:
Why Dissonance Is the Price of Awareness

Spiritual awakening is often painted as pure bliss.. golden light, peace, infinite clarity. What rarely gets spoken about is the weight that comes with it. It isn’t because the universe is cruel, but because awareness sharpens our senses and amplifies our responsibility.

When you wake up, you can’t unknow what you’ve seen. You can’t take the magic glasses off after putting them on. And that means every choice..from the thoughts you think, to the patterns you indulge, to the relationships you hold onto.. starts to vibrate differently.

Awareness Isn’t Punishment

Many people carry a quiet fear: If I know better and don’t always live aligned, am I doomed to suffer? I know I’ve had this thought personally. But..that’s not exactly how it works. There’s no cosmic punishment waiting around the corner. But there is a form of friction, and that friction is what I call the dissonance tax.

It’s not that you’re being punished. It’s that your system has evolved into higher resolution. Imagine switching from a fuzzy old TV to ultra-HD. The dust, the smudges, the imperfections were always there… you just have the vision to see them more clearly now.

The Real Trade-Off

  • Ignorance feels easy because it numbs sensitivity. The consequences are still there, but duller, slower to register.

  • Awareness feels sharp because it magnifies sensation. The body, mind, and soul now notice every little misalignment.

That sharpness is the cost, but it’s also the gift….because you now have the power to respond, recalibrate, and embody a new way of being.

Integration vs. Suffering

Awareness without integration leads to inner chaos. You see the patterns, but don’t embody the change. You feel the pull of higher alignment, but live in old choices. The result? Anxiety, shame, exhaustion, self-doubt.

Awareness with integration, however, births peace. It’s not about perfection. It’s about taking small, steady steps to live closer to what you already know.

  • Awareness + denial = suffering.

  • Awareness + embodiment = freedom.

Why the Dark Night Comes After the Light

Many of us experience a “dark night of the soul” after periods of great spiritual expansion. It feels like regression. Old habits, old partners, old ways of numbing come rushing back. But really, it’s like compost.

The light revealed hidden rooms in your psyche. Those rooms need cleaning, and the dark night is how that clearing unfolds. Just know that if you’ve been in a dark night (as I have), you didn’t lose your growth. You’re weaving it deeper..and deeper.

Releasing the Belief in Punishment

One of the heaviest limiting beliefs is: “If I’m aware but not fully embodied, I’ll be punished.”
The truth is gentler: the only punishment is the dissonance itself.

The more you resist integration, the louder the friction feels. The more you embody what you know, the more ease and flow return.

The Invitation of Awareness

Awareness doesn’t demand that you walk a razor’s edge forever. It invites you to learn how to dance barefoot on the path. Sensitive, yes. Careful, sometimes. But alive.. fully alive.

Takeaway: The cost of awakening isn’t eternal suffering. It’s the responsibility of resonance. Once you’ve tuned into higher frequencies, misaligned notes simply sound louder. That’s not a curse. It’s a compass.

If you’re walking this path and feeling the weight of dissonance in your body, relationships, or choices, know this: you don’t have to carry it alone. This is the work I hold space for…through moon circles, conscious coaching, energy healing and community rooted in real embodiment. If you’re ready to move from friction into flow, I’d love to walk with you. You can explore my offerings, from one-on-one support to group spaces here.

9 Ways to Get a Jumpstart & Make 2025 Transformational

Some of us like to make vision boards, others write a list of “New Year’s Resolutions”. Regardless of your approach, this is a great time of year to sit down and reflect, to celebrate this year’s wins and to get crystal clear on changes you may want to make in the coming year. As I was reflecting myself, I jotted down 9 ways to get started now rather than waiting until January 1st to implement changes.

1) Curate your social media

Unfollow any pages that distract you, make you feel less than, or just aren’t in alignment with the life you desire. This includes celebs, gossip pages, and people from your hometown you don’t vibe with anymore. Instead, follow self-empowerment pages, wellness accounts, special interests, and growth-focused content. Engage with what inspires you so you see more of it.

2) Reprogram your algorithms

Start searching for positive content on social platforms and Google. Look up topics like self-care practices, morning and nighttime routines, holistic health tips, meditations, mindset shifts, fasting, and anything else that supports your growth. Let the ether know you’re making a shift. Remember, algorithms reflect what you think about, search for, and engage with—so make it good stuff.

3) Block the negativity

From weird energy to plain old drama and negativity - If someone or something consistently makes you feel bad or simply doesn’t sit well with you, unfollow or block them, or set firm boundaries. Period. Boundaries are key to a better life, and this includes digital spaces. If you feel guilty, remember: it’s not about being “nice”—it’s about protecting your peace. Choose YOU.

4) Clean House

Donate or toss items that no longer bring you joy. Deep clean. Take it on one room at a time. Scrub the tub, dust hard to reach places, wipe down door frames and window seals, clean out the fridge, toss expired pantry goods, organize closets, add decor and items that make you feel good, get some houseplants. To be frugal, you can ask friends for plant cuttings to propagate, and thrift used decor items that speak to you (be sure to cleanse before adding to your space). Smudge your home counter-clockwise with sage and clockwise palo santo, light an incense, and rearrange to get stagnant energy moving.

5) Assess Your Habits

Which of your habits are no longer serving your highest good? Cut ‘em out. Decide which positive habits you’d like to implement, and start now.. no need to wait for January. Adopt supportive habits like grounding outside, exercising, journaling, meditating, eating nourishing foods, stretching, and regularly reaching out to connect with loved ones. Focus on mastering one new habit at a time. They’re the foundation for creating the life you want. They’re the structure that supports your highest good even when you “don’t feel like it.” Discipline + consistency = transformation.

6) Create a feel-good playlist

Make a go-to soundtrack filled with uplifting songs or calming frequencies to listen to daily or when you need a little pick-me-up. Skip anything low-frequency (sorry, gotta let the sad R&B songs, shoot-up-the-opps rage rap and tear-in-my-beer country music go while you’re trying to elevate). Music has power—choose sounds that really lift your spirit and put you in a good mood.

7) Write affirmations

Craft 5-10 personal affirmations like “I am worthy of love and abundance” or powerful ASKfirmations like “Why am I so healthy?” “Why am I so peaceful?” and “How do joy and success always find me?” You get the gist. Now record yourself saying them. Play this anytime you need to remember who you are. Bonus points for listening to them daily just before bed and right after you wake up while your brain is still in theta.

8) Visualize the BAG

Come up with a BAG (Big Audacious Goal) you want to secure in 2025. Visualize your life with said BAG secured. Whether it’s financial freedom, a loving partner, a new creative endeavor, a move or more free time to pursue side quests, etc., your goal should align with your core values and beliefs. Then ask: who do I need to become to make this happen? Remember, we attract what we are and what we believe in, so focus on becoming that version of you now.

9) Practice gratitude daily

Shift your focus to the good in your life. Gratitude helps you see solutions and invites more blessings your way. Stop judging others and situations negatively. No more ruminating on problems and telling all your friends and family about them. Start appreciating what is working. Staying in a state of appreciation attracts even more into your life to be grateful for. Quantum physics backs this—what you focus on expands.
